There's so much going on here, and I kinda love Iskierka, and Granby's standing up to her finally! The Inca, the ways the balance of power shift, and the way Novik balances action, characters, and humor is pretty amazing. Love, love, love. I don't really want to write a long review so I can...

I waited a good long while to read this, because I found book 6 rather tedious, but I am glad I did finally get around to it. The events in this book are much more exciting so it isn't so obvious that the characterizations seem to have stalled in the last few books. The dragons are still much like p...

For those that don't know, this is the seventh in a series with an alternate history of the Napoleonic Wars featuring fighting dragons. I thought the book before this one in the series, Tongues of Serpents, had been the weakest thus far, and feared it might signal the series had jumped the shark. Ha...

Better than the previous book, but still didn't have a focus. I enjoy the characters very much, particularly dour, straight-laced Lawrence, and I enjoyed each little adventure, but it seems more like a string of beads than a novel.

Oh, thank goodness. Naomi is back. While I can't say this is the best work in the series - the character growth is sketchy and some of the plot twists a little hard to swallow, especially in the timing - but things are happening again. Hooray! While it's still sad to see Laurence so world-weary and ...

This book was so much better than the last one! Things actually happened here. Major, catastrophic things! And lots of them. I was really shocked with one event and character death. There was also character development. Huge development between Temeraire and Iskierka. And Granby, who I've always lik...

Quite possibly my favourite of the series so far--exciting and game-changing and giving me the depth I wanted from the world. And it promises great things to come in the last couple of books. Writing honestly about this era in human history is a tricky balance, even--or maybe especially--in a specul...

Definitely an improvement on the previous book. I prefer spending time meeting new and exciting societies to wandering the trackless wilderness, and I also appreciated the closer linkage to major world events. It feels like the series is starting to draw to a close.A lot of the characterization felt...

From their exile in Australia, Laurence and Temeraire accept a commission to roost Napolean's dragons from Brazil which will reinstate them to their previous positions. A rather boring story all together. A voyage by dragon transport where the three dragons (Temeraire, Iskierka and Kulingile) bicke...

The fun of writing an alternate history, I imagine, is that you can change anything you don't like. let me just say that if Novik were the creator of the universe, rather than just a world, things would probably be both cooler and better. In this installment, our heroes travel to South America, fight...
