In early 2017 I heard about a new bike route in France called the ‘Velodyssee’, which runs from Roscoff down to Hendaye at the Spanish border, and is over 1200km (750 miles) in length. I checked out the website https://www.velodyssey.com and could see that a large part of the route hugged the west coast of France. I decided to cycle this route and found two friends to accompany me. Due to time constraints I decided to cycle over just half the route from La Rochelle to Roscoff, a distance of 640km (400 miles). Although the website gives some information about each route sections, I could not picture the route in the least in my mind. This book provides the story of our ride with the many photographs providing an idea of what the route is like. Overall the route was very varied with canal sections, cycling through forests and close to the sea, then along an old railway track. We completed cycling the route in 7 days so almost 60 miles a day on average. We took one short-cut cycling up to Nantes to ensure that we could complete the route in 7 days.
