This was pretty spooky, definitely fulfilling if you're looking for a campfire ghost story type feel. If I would have read it at night, I would have had that prickly back feeling.

Many of my students at school were reading this book and conveying to me how creepy it was, so I had to read it. After reading it though, I have to say, I think it was more mysterious and adventurous than creepy. My students are 5th and 6th graders and I am a substitute teacher so I get a lot of boo...

Since reading John Bellairs' Lewis Barnavelt series, I have been looking for something with the same feel. I think I found it with Dan Poblocki."The Stone Child" is a dark, YA tale that doesn't insult the intelligence of older readers. Tying in myths and folklore, Poblocki puts together a creepy sto...

wish I coulda read this when I was in 6th grade. it would have thoroughly creeped me out. I still enjoyed it as an adult but I'm more jaded now and it takes more tension to scare me. so glad some good horror is still being written for the middle schoolers.

I expected a bit more. More ghosts, more supernatural. Not something human. :(

Fantastically fun! The characters are likable, the "mysteries" are fascinating and realistic and delightfully varied. My favorite thing: that the questions the kids are asking themselves as they go about solving their mysteries are printed in bold and followed by a page break so the reader can atte...

This and other reviews can be found on Reading Between ClassesCover Impressions: This cover is super-creepy I love the image of the girl and the fact that her face is almost completely covered in shadow. The colors are reminiscent of the lake that plays such a large part in the story. The Gist: Ne...
