DANCE OF SHADOWS by Yelena Black is the first book in the series, with a sequel coming out in Winter 2014. It tells the story of Vanessa Adler, the younger sister of Margaret Adler who attended the New York Ballet Academy and then mysteriously disappeared. Three years after this Vanessa follows in h...

tl:dr | ✭✭✩✩✩ | I didn’t really like this book. Its supernatural, and outside of the opening prologue, it tries to shy away as much as possible from the supernatural until the last minute. I didn’t really care for the characters or their development. I only really liked the bits where she was dancin...

Well this turned out to be nothing like I thought. I was sort of expecting a YA version of 'Black Swan' with this one, but it was nothing at all like Black Swan.I liked it a lot, all the same. Started off interestingly enough, though was a little on the slow side, but I liked reading about Vanessa a...

I’m the last person who would criticize someone’s writing, but I do think I can criticize the moronic plot that the book packagers came up with. (Tinderbox Books LLC came up with the concept, pitched it to Bloomsbury, hired the writer Yelena Black.) It seems like a case where more attention was paid...

It seems that a lot of people didn't enjoy Dance of Shadows. It's set in a tradition first created by Twilight and continued by Fallen, and I read it in the light of this tradition. I remember the wait for the publication of the first book then the next and so on and so forth. One other type I would voraciously hunt down are any ball...

More of my reviews at Secrets of Lost Words.Rating: DThis one is such a disappointment. I thought a YA ballet book would be awesome yet it did not live up to my expectations.. it's far from it actually. There are only a few things I like about this book. One, of course, being ballet. I'm done ballet ...

I gave up at 72%. This story just isn't interesting me, and the characters are boring me to tears.

I was expecting a lot more from this book and ended up skimming the last half of it. I didn't flounce only because I was hoping that there would be something to redeem it. I didn't care for any of the characters or the plot or pretty much any part of it besides the cover.
