BEYOND THE SHADOWS   Private Investigator Nikki James grew up on the tough streets of Lyndhurst and believes there’s nothing left to surprise her. But all that changes the night she follows a rich man’s daughter into the shadows and finds herself caught in a war between two very different men. One is a madman, intent on destruction. The other has his own heart of darkness.   For three hundred years, Michael Kelly has existed in life’s shadows, gradually learning to control his vampire cravings. He is convinced that no one can breach his formidable barriers—until he meets Nikki. With her powerful psychic abilities, Nikki swiftly invades both his mind and his heart. Nikki knows how dangerous love can be . . . but if she wants to survive, she must place her trust in this man who could easily destroy her. For only together can they overcome the evil threatening to destroy them both.Includes an excerpt of the next novel in Keri Arthur’s Nikki and Michael series, Hearts in Darkness

I can't say I liked the style of this, it didn't flow too smoothly for me. And it was hard to discern between what Nikki was thinking and what others were saying in her mind since there were no italics used to show it easily. BUT I have to admit that despite that, I kind of got pulled into the sto...

4.0 "Whether she knew it or not, she'd created a bond that would not be easily broken."

She has major trust issu...

1.0 Dancing with the Devil (Nikki & Michael, Book 1)
A rare DNF for me. I made it about sixty pages before I gave up. It was just too cheesy with all the internal "why do I like him/why am I drawn to him?" thoughts. Perhaps it would've been better if we didn't learn that Michael was a vampire until after Nikki did, but I'm not sure.

My Initial Reaction... I read Keri Arthur's Riley Jensen series years ago, so I jumped at the chance to read this series. I was pleasantly surprised to find most of what I loved about Arthur's style mingled with something somehow very different in Dancing with the Devil. The Characters... Nikki Jam...
