I just finished reading Dark Fire by C J Sansom. Since I love historic books, I really liked this one. It was well written and well researched (at least it seems that way, I can't say I have enough knowledge to be absolutely sure). The main characters are likeable enough (at least Matthew Shardlake,...

This is the second book of the Matthew Shardlake series and I enjoyed it as much as the first one. It´s the year 1540 and this time around Shardlake has to solve the mystery of greek fire for Cromwell, a weapon, which he desperately needs to find to bring himself back in the king´s favor. A lot is a...

I loved this sequel even more than the first in the series! The author's credentials as a lawyer with a PhD in history are evident in the complex, finely written story that he creates around Tudor era lawyer, Matthew Shardlake. There is really no part of this book that I can disparage. The charact...

The second book in the Shardlake series was as good as the first. In this the story starts with him being asked to represent a girl accused of the murder of her cousin. She is refusing to speak, and the initial court case almost results with her being pressed, a horrible process of being squashed un...

In this the second book in the series things are complicated, secrets within secrets and not everything being what it seems. There are two stories here, one of a young woman who is accused of killig her nephew, this is the case that Shardlake starts with, he suspects that there are secrets that are...

I have actually read this book before, but it's summer, and it's hot, and my concentration is *rubbish* at the moment, so: a re-read. I remember this as being one of the weaker Shardlake novels, but it's still better than Revelation (which felt like it had a structure shoehorned onto it rather too f...

Very well written and love the new character Jack Barak but I still prefer book one (Dissolution) in this series as I found this one a little slow-going and predictable at times.

No spoilers for DissolutionI enjoyed Dissolution, the first of CJ Sansom’s novels to feature Tudor lawyer-come-detective Matthew Shardlake, to my own surprise due to my relative dislike of learning about the Reformation at school. So I was really looking forward to reading the follow up; unfortunate...
