Interesting idea promising adventures in a world where Europe has vanished and turned into an extraterrestrial jungle. Plodding follow-through with silly ghosts, gods, and machines. Depressing, eye-rolling ending with a Frank-Peretti-esqe angels-and-demons type of fight.

This novel is essentially two books. The first part is about exploration of an alien European continent, but the scope and tone change drastically in the second half. Both parts are good, but it's a little hard to reconcile the differences.
