I bought "Daughter Of The Blood" because I'd read and enjoyed a "Black Jewels" short story and because I'm a fan of her "The Others+ seriesIn audiobook format, "Daughter Of The Blood" runs for a little over sixteen hours. I made it to a little over two hours before setting it aside. The ideas are ori...
Vicious thing. I'm grossed out by how easy it was to read. Teen lit easy. It really, really bothers me. I don't think I'd ever recommend it. And it reads as if I hated it. Yet I didn't, which is part of what disturbs me.
YA nonsense stuff. Weird eyes and odd names abound. The intro (or prologue) in first person didn't actually put me off at first: it was written competently enough. The third person narrative, oddly, did. Info dumps in strange, skewed paragraphs. Almost too much information all at once, with not a lo...
Dayuuum! This was a good one, it has been a long while since i have found a fantasy that i enjoyed so much. To be completely honest with you, i have gotten mixed reviews about this series a while back, and never seemed to find the time to read it. I am glad i did. It had everything a good fantasy sh...
4 stars Serious review ahead. Deep shit, no gifs. This book is set in an extremely dark world created by Anne Bishop, in which women rule over men. Sounds great for us females, doesn't it? I thought so too. However, most of the women you'll meet in Terreille are vicious bitches. Using men as ple...
I'm always looking for a well-written dark fantasy novel and I promise you this: Daughter of the Blood doesn't even come close. In fact, I really hate this book. There are many books I've read and disliked, but hate is a harsh word and I rarely throw it into a review with such force. I went into...

*** 3.5 stars ***Picked this up after being blown away by The Others series by the same author. This one is quite dark and can be rather disturbing, but the story is intricately woven and very well done.
First of all: I don't like children in books much. They are usually overly cute or damaged. Here, the protagonist with the unelegant name of Jaenelle is a seven year old girl when the story starts. It is a dark high fantasy story - with totally inappropriate jokes thrown in. I don't appreciate t...
The story drew me in from the start. I was intrigued by the magical matriarchal society, with a shifting power dynamic determined by caste, rank and class depending greatly on magical power--and the title heroine, long prophesied and awaited throwing a joker into this deck. Bishop is adept at maki...
