I suppose, theoretically, that I would have aced AP American History even if I had not nigh-memorized this book at an impressionable age, but I would not have derived nearly as much enjoyment fromTHE HAWLEY-SMOOT TARIFFwithout it.

I once read an excerpt of this book to the 11th-grade class I was student teaching. Nobody laughed; I think they thought this was actual history. If anything, this book helped me realize teaching wasn't for me.
