First part of fantasy trilogy: so far, so good although a bit slowThis first part of a trilogy takes place in a fantasy land where the island of Acacia has dominated life for other peoples for a while but all that is about to change. I quite like this series and I can see why people draw the parallel between his series and Game of Thrones. Character-wise: Leodan = King Robert Baratheon/Ned Stark Corinn = Sansa Aliver = Robb Mena = AryaThaddeus = LittlefingerBut I enjoyed it.

In addition to "The Other Lands," Durham introduces more point-of-view characters in this follow-up to Acacia. He has a disturbing/clever way of making nearly all of them sympathetic, even the villains and those working at cross purposes, but DAMN some bad decisions are being made. I'm afraid for th...

I'm going to be lazy and direct my following to Ben's review of Acacia here. He covers much of what I would have written, though his reaction to the story was at least twice as enthusiastic as mine.I first attempted to read Acacia several years ago and don't believe I got past the first 50 pages or ...
