For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-CycleA highly entertaining, educational, and fun book. This is such a fantastic series. Great for fans of the first book as well as the picture book series. Personally, I like the chapter books more than the picture books. It's just easier to really get to ...

The frame for this collection of short stories is rather predictable. The individual tales themselves are better, though the first Uncle Montague book was better. I do wonder why all the short stories and the frame have male central characters. The stories channel Poe, James, and LeFanu. The bo...

I had expected something totally different from this book. I can't say what, as that would spoil the book, and for such a short review I don't feel like spoiler-tagging stuff. I was hoping for one ending, but I got a totally weird and not even close to what I wanted ending. An ending I didn't see co...

This was a hoot. I read it aloud to my seven year old daughter at bedtime over four nights, and we loved it enough that I ordered the next two from the UK. (This comes out in February from Macmillan.) In brief: infant Emily Vole is found in a hatbox in an airport, and adopted by two shallow people...

Another creepy installment in the series. I love the pen and ink drawings and the overarching story that brings the little vignettes together.

The kids and I thought the pictures in this one were really cute. We liked the story, too, but in spots it was a little repetitive, and that did get a little annoying at times. My nephew did ask if the T-Rexes were going to become nice in this story. My niece responded, "They're T-Rexes. So, no." ...

November 18, 2010We read it last night when we got it home. Such fun! I love the class full of kids who may seem like misfits, but each of whom has very desirable skills which they use together to thwart the evil teacher. An elaborate heist pulled off by kids against a teacher who looks like she ...
