David Savage has been a designer and maker of fine furniture for over 30 years. Born and raised in the 1950's, in Bridlington, Yorkshire, in England, David was surrounded by his parents' love of arts and crafts. He found good fortune favoured his application to the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, at the University of Oxford, where his studies eventually led to a further three years post graduate study at the Royal Academy Schools in Picadilly London. Here he was fortunate to study under Edward Bawden and Peter Greenham. After graduating, David worked in the field of public arts working on Westway Murals and Cable Street Mural in London. When this was attacked by fascists David resigned in from the project and turned to furniture making.Firstly from a studio in London then in Bideford Devon, David slowly built a clientele by offering exceptional making and an attentive design service. During the early years he wrote for British Woodworking magazines like "Woodworker" "Furniture and Cabinetmaking" and "Good Woodworking" often not just writing technical pieces but giving a personal journal of how the workshop was performing that month. His pieces became necessary reading for an emerging Studio Furniture Movement, a movement that David Savage is now an established leading member.Pieces created in his studio are the iconic Love Chairs Vers4 and A Day Bed for Maggie Rose. Each piece has a story to tell, a story of not just the commission, but the client that was involved with each piece. In 2009 David began work on his book 'Furniture with Soul', which was published in 2011 by Kodansha, and has been positively received by the International woodworking community.
