This made me stop reading, right after I picked this up: "The lyrics of that first song coiled the bitter sweetness of nostalgic regret round my brain, like chains anchoring me to the prison of my past." I am not a big fan of pseudo-poetic metaphores and flowery prose. And so I'll give this one...
