Mariah was abused by her mom. Her mom was a seamstress and Mariah learned how to do so too. In addition, she draws designs that her mom would sell and pass on as her own. After being hit (again), she decides enough is enough and leaves. With the help of her aunt Libby, she answers an ad for a housek...

Ohh la la. Seriously though I am loving these historical romances by Jenkins. This one is the first book in her "Destiny" series. I loved the hero and heroine and cannot wait to read more books featuring the Yates brothers. In "Destiny's Embrace" we follow Logan Yates and Mariah Cooper. Mariah Coo...

What can I say--I loved it and will be looking for more of her historical romances. Love that this took place in California, giving me the chance to learn some more things about the state's history. A nice mini history of Queen Califia (who was a warrior queen who ruled over a kingdom of Black wom...

Desiny’s Embrace is the first book in the Destiny trilogy. This is a trilogy based on the three Yates Brothers. I recently read the third book and I loved it so much I knew I needed to read the other two brothers. This is an author I have loved ever since I started reading romance, in fact she is on...

I don't have much to say about this one. While it was nice to read a historical romance featuring African-American protagonists and Hispanic and Native American supporting characters, the plot was predictable and the prose was pretty purple (especially during the smexing).

This is the first book I have ever read by Beverly Jenkins and it did not disappoint one bit! Destiny’s Embrace is the story of Mariah Cooper and Logan Yates. Mariah has grown up in the harsh world of Philadelphia PA. All of her life she has been treated poorly by her mother as well as kids in the...

Mariah had endured a rough life by the hands and hatred of her mother. Feeling she'd had enough, Mariah decided to strike out on her own. She went to California and struck gold, by the name of Logan. I enjoyed the history that accompanied the story, the banter between Mariah and Logan, the lovely A...

This was my first foray into Jenkins' work, and it wasn't too bad. I just didn't fall in love with the writing or the characters really (except Alanza) and when you have a love story where the character's development drives the plot like it does here, and you don't enjoy the characters, it makes it ...
