Diane Heiman savors words--reading them, writing them and speaking them. Her first book, self-published when she was in 5th grade, stands proudly on her bookshelf with its red velvet cover. Long ago, in the days before texting, Diane spent too much time talking on the phone with friends. Diane is the co-author of four non-fiction books for tweens. ("See What You Can Be: Explore Careers That Could Be for You!," American Girl Publishing, (2008 Children's Choice Award winner), "The Origami Fortune Teller Book," Dover Publications, and "The Mitzvah Project Book Making Mitzvah Part of Your Bar/Bat Mitzvah... and Your Life,"(Jewish Lights Publishing.) "The JGuy's Guide: The GPS for Jewish Teen Guys" was published by Jewish Lights in the fall of 2013.Her recent picture book, "It's a...It's a...It's a Mitzvah!" (Jewish Lights Publishing), appeals to a younger audience with captivating illustrations by Laurel Molk. Spiritualityandpractice.com chose "It's a...It's a ...It's a...Mitzvah" as one of the best spiritual books of 2012.Diane's writing partner is her best friend from college, Liz Suneby. She also works as a Senior Editor at Moment Magazine. She directs Moment's Publish-a-Kid Book Review Writing Contest and hopes everyone ages 9 to 13 will enter! When she was student at Georgetown Law, she co-founded the Equal Justice Foundation, which funds 400 law student internships at not-for-profits each year.Diane and her husband have two wonderful daughters in their 20s--both are avid readers. Diane volunteers for her Sisterhood at Washington Hebrew Congregation, takes her delightful dog, Dusty, on daily outings, craves peanut butter and chocolate, and wishes she needed less sleep so she could read more!Her favorite authors and poets include: James Herriott, Ezra Jack Keats, Sydney Taylor, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Jhumpa Lahiri, Michael Chabon, Tony Hillerman, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, and Dylan Thomas.
