A mystery that stresses the people whose lives are impacted by the deaths. Mary Jago was an interesting character and I liked the evolution of her character as she got into relationships and out of relationships.

One of the first Rendell books I read. Very much indicative of her style - very rich portrayals of characters, with the mystery being a side note.
