Don Cygan is a former daily newspaper reporter and free-lance writer. He currently works as a history teacher in Douglas County, Colorado. As part of his professional and personal interests, Cygan has studied various aspects of history, military history, and foreign affairs for decades.As a reporter, Cygan covered breaking news, features, and the police beat. During Operation Desert Storm he was a journalist/public relations specialist for the US Army, writing articles for various publications and providing public relations for the Department of Defense. Part of this work included educating the public on military tactics and equipment. For the past four years Cygan has been interviewing WWII veterans and facilitating a community college class on the Battle of the Bulge. His fascination with the Battle of the Bulge led to his casting as an extra in the 2003 movie "Saints and Soldiers." Cygan is involved in the historical reenacting community and is a proponent of "immersion history" as a way to both better understand and teach others about history. Cygan's education is in journalism/mass communications, political science and history.
