I was just a shy Caribbean girl when I first came to the US, having to adjust to an entire different way of life and culture. I watched my father abuse my mother most of my life and started writing poetry as therapy to release all the emotions I felt. It was a difficult choice to share my poems with the world, but my struggles over the years have taught me that there are others like me who may need to hear my words to be inspired and realize they are not alone.Today I still write about the trials I continue to face and the state of the world, but I also take the time to see beauty and be more positive about the little things we tend to take for granted. My first official published collection of poetry titled "Ataraxia" was written during some of the most difficult times of my life.
