Um, I'm not sure what I read? But it was AMAZING. I think part of the illusion of my incomprehension is that there is a generous use of colons and semicolons, so the sentences seem to keep running on and on, and the stories just tumble out of the pages and straight into your imagination. The second ...

I've read these short stories several times since I was a child. It's a collection of beautifully written fairy tales, suitable for all ages.

Interesting interpretation of some faerie tales, and some new stories that read like faerie tales, two of each.

The stories are good, but I think McKinley was channeling Hans Christian Andersen. These are the most melancholy fairy tales imaginable. Also appears on The Screaming Nitpicker.I was excited to read this collection of four short stories from Robin McKinley because I've heard so many good things about her and one of her novels is on my must-read list, but this book was ultimately underwhelming. The Stolen Princess In the last mortal k...

A lovely collection of four stories by Robin McKinley. My favourite one is her version of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. For the complete review, please go here:http://www.epinions.com/review/_2000656834_1/content_63654825604

This fairytale collection contains four stories, two original (The Stolen Princess and The Hunting of the Hind) and two retellings (The Princess and the Frog and The Twelve Dancing Princesses). I liked them all to a certain degree, but my favorite happened to be McKinley’s version of The Twelve Danc...

The Door in the Hedge is a collection of four stories. "The Stolen Princess" plays out the traditional motif of babies being stolen by faeries, but in this story faeryland and the bordering kingdom eventually merge. "The Princess and the Frog" was an interesting take on the traditional story of the...

Retellings of classic fairy-tales. Beautiful stuff - some interesting twists, but very pure and true to the tradition of these stories. Not as memorable or powerful as The Blue Sword (but that's one of my favorite books EVER). A quick read, and wholly enjoyable.
