The Spring Cleaning Murders, An Ellie Haskell Mystery by Dorothy Cannell is a quick cozy mystery to read. Because it kept me guessing, I gave it four stars. Ellie's family meets a new housekeeper, Mrs. Large. "'Morning, all.' Her voice was deep and gruff and--as might be expected--she was definite...

#GOODBYEMS.CHIPS AVAILABLE 6/7/16 NICE LITTLE COZY 3 STARS @dorothycannell @randomhouse I really wanted to like this book. It had a good premise and it had great characters. But it was so slooooow moving. I skipped a lot of pages. I even fell asleep twice. However, the ending, was pretty good....

Another oldie from the personal library shelves. I love this one. It's almost purely a satire of the English aristocracy and gentry, with a couple of mysteries and a romance thrown in too. If you've never read Dorothy Cannell, she is a cozy mystery author, primarily known for her Ellie Haskel se...

The mock Gothic is one of my very favorite types of books. This should have been perfect for me: a Yorkshire manor, suspicious goings-on, a cozy domestic mystery with delicious menus. The failing here is entirely my own. I think the book was too light for my own mood. Copy loaned by beloved MIL

Admittedly, I've found that the so-called "cozy mystery" isn't my cuppa. Particularly in a series. Agatha Christie is so clever in plotting, I can forgive that her Miss Marple stumbles into one homicide after another. I'm less forgiving with other books featuring amateur detectives and including cut...

Started 12-4-09. The beginning is certainly evocative of Young Frankenstein. Simply silly. :-)It's really three and a half stars, rounded. An enjoyable book and good enough it will lead me to read at least the first of the series. I thought the ending was fairly weak, but.... Loved the line: "bo...
