Series: Mrs. Pollifax #1 Mrs. Pollifax is a widow in her sixties with grown children who has been feeling down in the doldrums and rather without purpose lately. So she decides to try to live out a childhood dream of becoming a spy by showing up at CIA headquarters and asking to be one. Through a ...

Ouch. Read this once, and firmly determined to put it out of my memory and focus on the earlier, stronger books. Very much a faded carbon copy of the sparkle and charm of earlier books, with all the ongoing flaws brought strongly into the light accordingly. Do yourself a favor, and reread The Une...

Not, alas, one of the best -- Dorothy Gilman's earnestly patronizing orientalism comes out to an awkward degree in all her books set in the Middle East -- but still a Mrs Pollifax, with fun moments as such.

Somehow for a long time, I have got disconnected with the spy fiction genre. It’s strange but in fact it was this genre and the writings of Frederick Forsyth, Colin Forbes and Robert Ludlum that made me realise my unhealthy addiction towards thrillers. But, somehow I don’t feel the same affinity wit...

Whenever one comes across a spy thriller, one comes to expect a book stuffed with action, men fighting over secret messages, high ranking officials giving orders, and higher ranking officials being revealed as spies. And, if it is a modern day spy thriller, add to all the above a bevy of gadgets and...

More Mrs. Pollifax. Dated, and more than a little ridiculous, but lots of fun.

The "unexpected" Mrs Polifax is the unlikely Mrs Polifax at least on first impressions. She's a white-haired sixty something, a widow from New Brunswick, New Jersey with grown children who are living lives apart from her. In the beginning of the book she's depressed, feeling useless. Her doctor asks...
