Doug Garrett has been a part of the green building and building science fields since 1986. That was the year he founded the City of Austin, TX electric utility's residential, multifamily and small commercial energy conservation programs. In 1988 he discovered the emerging field of applied building science. Building scientists have employed extensive computer modeling followed up with national field testing to answer the many questions builders, architects and homeowners have about how to best build or renovate homes and buildings. With nearly 30 years of peer reviewed research completed, we now understand how and why homes either fail or perform like champions! Doug has enjoyed organic flower and vegetable gardening, biking, rock hounding, and country living for many decades now. He has been a contractor, a utility conservation director, a trainer, helped to develop energy codes, and more. In his current incarnation, he enjoys forensic engineering investigations to solve existing performance problems in his clients homes. Other areas of current interest are presenting training seminars to industry professionals. Finally, Doug likes to work with folks building new homes or renovating older homes to ensure that they get the truly high performance home of their dreams.
