Man, the old style of writing for comics can get clunky. So, so clunky. There's more nuance nowadays: a little more trust of the audience, so not everything has to be said quite as plainly as it is. Still, I want to see what happens to that lady who went through Terrigenesis, but there was ...
Paradox Press' "Factoid Books" Big Book of fill in blank is a series I have fond memories of, though I never bought any of them. I recall spending time flipping through them while hanging out at Barnes and Noble and Borders book stores, back when I was not really that into comics but intrigued by we...
Oh my gosh, this book. I'm really not sure what to say about this book. I wanted to like it. And I kind of did, especially once Claremont took over the writing duties. But it has a couple glaring flaws which fall into that valley between books which are genuinely good and books which lack in strai...
This volume contains all 24 issues of the Marvel Comics' Godzilla series. There's a lot of action, pathos, and good fun in these comical, which feature artwork by Herb Trimpe, best known for his work on the Incredible Hulk and being the co-creator of Wolverine. Definitely recommended reading.
Another monster volume drawing the (overly long) Knightfall storyline to a close. Bruce is back, and has claimed the cowl back from Jean Paul Valley. And that's roughly halfway through this volume. The rest of the book is Dick Grayson's first stint as Batman, with Tim Drake as Robin. It was this sec...
At this point, Knightfall gets most of its worth as an historical artifact. By which I mean that it isn't really very good, but it is an important even in Batman's history. (Which, post-Flashpoint, may never have happened after all.) The whole Knightfall storyline (Bane breaks Batman, Batman comes b...
This item was provided to me by the publisher, Dark Horse. I lost interest after the first story. The art was good. Not amazing or spectacular, but good. I generally prefer comics with color, I find them to be more impressive overall. However, there are some equally excellent comics in black and whi...
Nothing about this book is "essential" by any meaning of the word. In fact, the first nine issues were declared to be "imaginary stories" a few years later, since they played so fast and loose with Marvel Comics continuity. About the only things of any note that came out of this book were establishi...
Overall, this story arc is really great. It's tough to get through the first book where Batman faces off against Dracula. But from there on out it's a whirlwind of bloody brutality, and Batman always finds himself in the center of it. Loved this comic. Must-read for all horror fans that are also Bat...
A big turnaround after the so-so Batman v. Dracula epic. Batman turning into a vampire is a very relevant storyline to surround his character with. Though when you do so, you also put limitations on what you can do for a long time which leads to the eventual end of this story arc. Loved it.
