Despite these fond memories, that does not prevent me from recognising that this was deeply formulaic fantasy trash that unashamedly revelled in rehashing all the well worn cliches of the genre. Quaint fantasy with some elements that made it good. It seemed to me through some parts of the series that it was just following too many fantasy cliches. There are touches of good writing, but for the most part the events are predictable and the narrative windy.
