An idealistic young prince convinces an aging warrior and a struggling witch to help him kill the dragon that is terrorizing his kingdomAs a vicious dragon stalks the Southlands, Crown Prince Gareth ventures to the forbidding North in search of the only man who can kill it. He is Lord Aversin, the Dragonsbane, whose dragon-slaying days have won him renown across the land. But when Gareth finds Lord Aversin, he discovers the mighty hero is squat and bespectacled, the ruler of a mud-village who admits that he killed the dragon not with a lance, but with ignoble poison. Still, he’ll have to do. Gareth and Aversin set off in company with Jenny Waynest, a witch with great ambitions but disappointingly puny powers—a ragtag crew destined to become legendary, or die in the attempt. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Barbara Hambly, including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.

4.0 Classic Fantasy You Should Try
Dragonsbane is a novel I read upon release back in 1985. Obviously, the world was a different place back then, I was a different person (young teenager) and fantasy was of a different flavor. Even at the time though, I knew that Barbara Hambly had gifted her readers with a refreshingly mature fantas...

4.0 Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly
Hey, this is really good! It doesn’t beat out The Ladies of Mandrigyn as my favorite Hambly, but that’s because Mandrigyn is awesome; this is a strong second. Please ignore the cover and blurb, though, as they appear designed to fool you into thinking this is a different sort of book from what it ac...

4.0 Vencer Al Dragon
More like 4 1/2, really.I wasn't very into it at the beginning, but then halfway through I really started to enjoy it a lot more and ended up loving it.However, my edition sucked. Lots of commas in really weird places and such editorial blunders.

Hardcover, book club edition, different cover. Well, this one turned out to be a fantastic read, full of new twists on the old theme of hunting the dragon. Smart characters, real psychological depth, and great action sequences. Very much recommended. For the complete review, please go here:http://ww...

But Sir John Aversin is not what Gareth had hoped for—he’s a scruffy academic who is less concerned about honor than he is the health of his...
