This was a bit slow to get going, but once we got into part 2 it became the Pern book I have come to love. By part 3 I was on the edge of my seat, even though I knew vaguely what happens. Man, I cried more than once for various reasons. Finding out the details of Sallah's sacrifice. Learning the det...

If you're already a fan of Anne McCaffey's Pern, you'll love this book. Chronologically the first Pern book.I wouldn't recommend starting here, but having read a few others I enjoyed learning how the dragon riders began.

I had been reading the Pern books for several years by the time I came across this one, and this quickly became one of my favorites.

I'm still not sure how Pernese society got from here to what we see in Lessa's time (other than twenty-five hundred years of increasingly feudal society, but damn),...

Blew my mind A.W.A.Y! When I read this book, all became clear. I had no clue and it really made me sit up and go, "What?" I enjoyed this book and reading how it all started out. This was one of my favourite "ah ha" books. Ms. McCaffrey is amazing.
