I see now why Raina Telgemeier has such a devoted fanbase. 'Drama' was a great deal of fun and brought back a lot of fond memories of my own drama club experiences.Callie is in 7th grade and passionate about set design for her middle school's productions. Being of the age when you're drowning in a s...
It's a sweet story, good for young readers. Still, I wasn't crazy about the art style, and I felt that there was a lot that could have been done better. This is Callie's story, and she's on the stage crew at her middle school. She meets two new boys - twins, I believe - Justin and Jesse who ca...
Another recommendation from the eight-year-old. She also lent me Sisters to read this week. I didn't find Drama very dramatic, and several of the characters fell flat for me (mainly Matt, but I would have pared a few of the tertiary players as well). But I liked the diversity, and it's really read...
A little note to all. 1. This is a graphic novel. 2. It features guys who are gay, and also features a kiss between 2 guys. If you think you can't handle either aspect of this, than this is not your kind of book. Now on to the book, which I might add, I loved dearly. I love Raina Telgemeier's art sty...
PLACES, EVERYONE!Callie loves theater. And while she would totally try out for her middle school's production of Moon Over Mississippi, she can't really sing. Instead she's the set designer for the drama department stage crew, and this year she's determined to create a set worthy of Broadway on a mi...
***Note: this review assumes that you've read the book.*** Drama is a little older than Smile, Raina Telgemeier's previous graphic novel, in that an important aspect of the story is the main character's navigation of romance and crushes. In addition, Telgemeier continues to explore the (important)...
Drama is a good companion to Smile, Raina Telgemier's previous graphic novel aimed at middle school readers. This book focuses not on teasing and self-image issues but on teen romance and sexuality (although briefly and innocently). The friendships and crushes of a teen stage crew worker are detaile...
This is such a cute story. I just colored my hair blue, so of course I love Callie's purple hair. My high school didn't even have a drama department, let alone my middle school, so the whole concept was a little exotic to me. I love how this novel really shows the comradeship of being part of a prod...
Like Smile, Drama has become a touchstone for Gearbox. He's going into middle school next year and this book perfectly addresses all of his fears and the difficulties of that transition. Highly recommend this book for tweens and teens.
