I Picked Up This Book Because: Curiosity? I think mostly I wanted to get to know Michelle’s other half.Mr Obama has had a varied and well traveled life. He has experienced many cultures and taken advantage of the knowledge gained. While I feel like I learned a lot about his past I don’t feel like t...

I liked the recounting of his childhood stories, life in Hawaii in the 60s and 70s, and the description of Kenya. I was amazed by his writing style - I had no expectations but he writes better than some self-proclaimed "writers".

I'm embarrassed it took me this long to pick up Barack Obama's first book. I learned so much, especially from listening to the audiobook which is read by the author. It brought Obama's early life into sharp relief, illustrating his path and the development of his values, ethics, and morals. Most of ...

22/3 - I'm Australian, I've never spent any extended period of time living in the US, so all of my opinions are those of an outsider looking in. I'm also not much of a political watcher so I don't know all the ins and outs of my own country's political structure, let alone that of America's, so plea...

So I always feel a little bit weird rating memoirs. I don't ever want someone to take a look at one of my reviews and think that equals me hating their life, but in some cases not all memoirs are the same. Luckily, for the most part I really liked this one. Prior to becoming President of the United ...

I started reading this book in 2009, but got sidetracked. Going to go back to the beginning and start over now.And I'm glad I did. This is a good book, the story of a man trying to find himself in a confusing world. Obama has a good writer's voice, although he occasionally gets a bit too intellec...

Barack Obama's election is what inspired me to read International Relations & Politics at university, and he remains an incredibly inspiring person to me and I have everything crossed that he'll get to stay in the White House for four more years. These feelings have only increased since I read Dream...

Great material and interesting, but overall told from too detached a point of view. Many times I was left with the impression: "Well that was interesting, but so what? What does it mean - emotionally, socially, and politically?" It's a great set of experiences but its not really tied into a cohesive...

I knew there was no way I'd ever read this whole thing in print, so I listened to the abridged audio book. It's read by the author, and it felt cozy to sit here right in my own home and have Mr. President tell me all about the first 20-some years of his life. This was written way back when "Barry" ...

Obama's autobiography to 1995. It's a little dry at times, though all of the content is interesting. Since he wrote it before his presidential bid, it's much less guarded/sanitized than it could have been if written later. He describes a lot of the phenomena associated with being black or multiracia...
