Know when you're finished, and when you are, put your pencil or your paintbrush down.- Stephen King Duma KeyI may not be your average Stephen King reader. I'm not enamored with the author, but I have thoroughly enjoyed some of his tales. Others have left me cold. The stories I tend to like are not t...
Had an interesting time listening to this in audio format. I mean, I was sketching and coloring like demon-possessed by the last third in. Characterization-wise, creepy dolls are creepy (though it's a nice zig-zagging there), cool old ladies are awesome, and the friendship aspects were beautiful. ...
I want to start off by writing that Stephen King is my all-time favorite author, but his recent work leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, The Duma Key falls into the latter category of disappointing novels. The story starts with Edgar Freemantle, a successful contractor whose truck collides wi...
Wrap Pet Sematary in a Bag of Bones and you'll have Duma Key. Revenants, creepy dolls, paintings that fix the broken, and enough tragedy to fill a swimming pool with tears is what you'll find within these pages. The scene at the end with [name deleted because spoilers] is one of the creepiest heart-...
After Edgar Freemantle is in a serious industrial accident that costs him his right arm, his life falls apart on many levels. On the advice of one of his physicians, he decides to move away from Minnesota and have a completely fresh start on a small Florida island, Duma Key. He rents a house there f...
I wasn’t far into reading Duma Key before it dawned on me that there was, quite possibly, something very important about this novel. It’s no secret that King was almost killed in a car accident in 1999 and, for quite some time afterwards, there was doubt whether he would ever recover enough to be ab...
After reading and loving Carrie (one of King's first books) I was eager to read Duma Key (one of his most recent books). I like his writing style and I seem to enjoy horror as well (both are pretty new to my readers mind), but this story failed to enthral me as Carrie did. 700+ pages about one singl...
I know this is one of the King's more unloved books, but I really enjoyed it.Even though it was written in his typical long winded fashion (which I personally love), there was enough action and plot so that I was unable to put the book down. It's very unrealistic, of course, but I don't think that sh...
Like much of King's work lately, this one lightly uses genre tropes in an otherwise very realistic novel. Here we have three characters on a Florida key, each dealing with a brain injury, grief, and loss, and finding ways to cope and help one another. There is a great deal about art from a naive p...
Heartily recommended. Within 5 minutes of finishing I missed the characters in this book. There's a lot of joy and laughter in the 1st part of this book and you're not sure exactly where the creepiness is going to come from until it all blows up the 2nd half and boy, is it ever creepy.
