I won The Kraken Sea in a Goodreads giveaway. All opinions are my own. The Kraken Sea by E. Catherine Tobler is a story of a fifteen year old boy, Jackson, who is very different from other boys. He is not accepted for what he is until he is adopted by Cressida. I found this book to be entertaining, ...
Lovely, but perhaps a bit slow paced for my tastes. I probably should have saved this for a rainy fall day instead of reading it in short bursts at bedtime. I'll be interested in trying more of Tobler's circus fiction. Or even not circus fiction. She's obviously very sharp and understands strange.
For my full-length review, and reviews of individual stories, please visit Casual Debris.Guest-edited by illustrious editor Ann VanderMeer, the eighteenth Shimmer is to this date my favourite, featuring an eclectic octave of superior modern genre fiction. As though taking my comments on Shimmer 17 i...
Not all the stories in this collection are stand-outs, and not all, thankfully, have to do with brides. Datlow and Windling, however, should get a huge round of applause and much credit for bringing back the female beast and male looker instead of just staying to the whole typical Beauty and the Be...

Crystal Halloway & the Forgotten Passage:★★★ We've all been there as kids, we just don't remember. An Emp...

I've been meaning to get a subscription to this respected quarterly, and as soon as I subscribed online I received an e-promise from publisher Beth Wodzinski that she'll drop it in the mail shortly. A week later I ...

I can't think of a single story that I really disliked, and most of the stories were quite good. For me, the two best were Tanith Lee's The Puma's Daughter and Peter...
I hate to say it but I just couldn't get on with this one, I only read the first 3 stories / poems in the anthology but it's been 20 days since I last picked it up and I haven't been able to bring myself to go back to it.It's not that the stories are bad, I just don't think this is my kind of thing ...
