I've never read a book with a castrato present in it and I was taken by surprise about what that meant in terms of physicality. The story was shorter than the first in the series and in a way suffered because of it. The characters were likable but there was no time to get attached to them.

This was a lovely steampunk story with quite unique characters. I liked that they were different from your everyday romance characters, and I enjoyed the academic debate between them (still relevant today - I know many "old-school" humanitarian scientists, and they struggle with financing, while IT ...
