An Illusion Mixed with RealityEstimations show that planet Earth is tilted away from its magnetic axes because of its misalignment and the other forces acting on it. This means that if the planet could slowdown both its rotation and orbit, its axis of rotation will move closer to its magnetic axis. With Earth, the separation between the axes occurs because the planet’s core is anchored to the magnetic apex, but the poles are not anchored in space. They are free to move. This creates a complex illusion that is part fact and part fiction. It is a fact that we can see two different axes, geographic and magnetic. It is fiction because mathematically, the planet is only rotating on its magnetic axis. However, the axis of rotation is forced to tilt away from the magnetic axis because of the offset. Since the axis of rotation is not a physical rod anchored to something in space, it can tilt and move. This creates the illusion of two axes. This idea might be difficult to visualize and understand without both a physical and a mathematical model. The challenge for scientists is to come up with a consistent single equation that will place each of the planets back on its magnetic axis. The formula would show that all planets are in reality rotating on their magnetic axes.
