Ed O'Loughlin was born in Toronto and brought up in County Kildare in rural Ireland. He reported from Africa for The Irish Times and other newspapers, and was Middle East correspondent for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age of Melbourne. His first novel, Not Untrue and Not Unkind, was long-listed for the Man Booker Prize in 2009 and short-listed for the Kerry Irish Fiction Award in 2010. His critically-acclaimed second novel, Toploader, a satire on drone attacks and the war against terror, was published by Quercus Books in April 2011. Minds of Winter, an epic mystery set in the heroic age of polar exploration, appeared in September 2016.
