EFFECT OF SONNICATION ON THE FATTY ACID COMPOSITION OF THE OIL OF Chlorella vulgaris
This work investigates the effect of extracting oil from Chlorella vulgaris using ultra high frequencies at 20kHz, 40kHz, 60kHz, and 80kHz. The yield of oil obtained are 34%, 36%, 41%, and 45% respectively. The effect of the ultrasonic frequencies on fatty acid composition of the oil was...

This work investigates the effect of extracting oil from Chlorella vulgaris using ultra high frequencies at 20kHz, 40kHz, 60kHz, and 80kHz. The yield of oil obtained are 34%, 36%, 41%, and 45% respectively. The effect of the ultrasonic frequencies on fatty acid composition of the oil was investigated using gas chromatography (GC) and fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Oil extracted with soxhlet using n-hexane was used as a standard, comparison of graphical data shows that sonication of Chlorella vulgaris cells at 20kHz-80kHz has no effect on the fatty acid composition of the oil.
