3.5 starsMalcolm is very smart. I really liked how he worked everything out. I did figure a lot of what was happening out ahead of time and feel that some of the people he tricked should have been a little quicker on the uptake. Definitely entertaining.

I have come to expect a polished story from JG, pacy and with a concise opening, which hooks the reader from the off. 'The Racketeer' fits this pattern and yet in my view it is not one of his best. The plot seemed more contrived than usual and the characters less plausible somehow. I do not regret r...

From Goodreads: Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered.Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number f...

The only actual entertaining part of this was Grisham's "I didn't give a shit anyway" disclaimer at the end. At least he admitted it.

The book peaked way too soon. The last few chapters were too predictable. It was one of the weaker writings of Grisham.

I don't know why I even bothered finishing this book. It started off okay but went downhill quickly. This was extremely boring. Nothing about this held my interest at all. The main character Malcolm/Max came off as a gigantic jerk to me and I really didn't care to read about him. The ending was obvi...

Just OK. I found some of the characterization, descriptions and plot elements to be discordant, and not believable, particularly the relationship between the protagonist and his eventual girl friend, and his plan, carried out, using her as a 'honey trap' to distract and entrap.

Haven't read Grisham in over 10 years. Not a fan of his writing style but he can spin a story.

While the book ended quite well, I must say that from the 55% mark until the 80% mark I was incredibly bored. I almost stopped reading the book completely because I genuinely did not care what happened in the end. I'm glad I finished it, though, because I didn't want to hate this book. It had had a ...
