Like the last one, somewhat melancholy, but beautiful. Fin's quiet love, Razo's loyalty, the friendship between Enna and Izzie that was just perfect. We need more books with those being the power themes. Hale gets my undying recommendation to girls looking for a read.
After the death of her mother, Enna returned to her home in the forest to help her older brother take care of the place. But when her brother discovers how to control fire, Enna begins to fear the changes she sees in her brother. At the same time, a war with Tira begins and her brother's new ability...
I can't really form coherent thoughts about this one yet, but suffice it to say this for now:4.5. Loved it. Finna forever. And I feel like I have a fever just from the descriptions.
I read this in the wrong order but it shouldn't really matter much for the Goose Girl book. This is a story about a girl whose brother finds a piece of vellum that tells him how to channel fire. When he dies she takes the vellum and as her country is at war she decides to channel the fire to help....
I love this book with a deep, burning passion (pun intended). In many ways it's even better than the Goose Girl. I love that we get to see beyond the happily ever after ending, and find out what happens next!Enna is a feisty, strong-willed heroine, which is why I love her so much, but I also love th...
The second book in the Bayern series. Enna, a young woman, lives with her brother, Liefer, in the Forest. Liefer returns one day acting strangely and hiding a piece of vellum from Enna. He shows her how he can start fires and conjure flame using nothing but his mind. He eventually becomes so enslave...
I'll admit that for quite awhile, I wasn't sure I liked where this story, the second in The Books of Bayern, was headed. Then Hale blew me away with some great twists and turns and I found myself enjoying this book just as much as I did The Goose Girl. We don't see a lot of Ani/Isi (she goes by Isi ...
Enna saw her best friend become a queen in The Goose Girl, and now she wants more from life. Nothing specific, just more than keeping animals for the king, or living in the Forest and raising chickens. Her brother, Liefer, discovers the secret of controlling fire, and combined with his own yearning ...
This second book in the series shifts its focus to a (secondary) character from Book 1 (The Goose Girl). In this book, the character develops the ability to harness the power of fire. She aims to not to use it for harm, but can good intentions prevail, or will the scorching flame consume its host?
I would have given this five stars, it probably deserves it, if I didn't read Goose Girl first. I find I can't give a sequel (or companion book) as good of a rating if it wasn't as good as the book that preceded it. But it was good, great even, just not as good. Hale has an amazing way with characte...
