Elizabeth Barkley is an internationally known scholar, educator and consultant with over 30 years experience as an innovative and reflective college teacher. In addition to her disciplinary focus in music history, her areas of interest include engaging students through active and collaborative learning; transforming F2F and online curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners; the scholarship of teaching and learning; and connecting learning goals with outcomes and assessment. Her traditional books include Learning Assessment Techniques: A Handbook for College Faculty (Wiley/Jossey-Bass, 2016), Collaborative Learning Techniques: A Handbook for College Faculty (Wiley/Jossey-Bass, Second Edition, 2014), Student Engagement Techniques (Wiley/Jossey-Bass, 2010), and Learning Assessment Techniques (Wiley/Jossey-Bass, to be released January, 2016), and Crossroads: The Roots of America's Popular Music (Prentice Hall, 2nd Edition, 2007) She has also written 3 interactive digital textbooks for Kendall Hunt in conjunction with Great River Technology: Crossroads: The Music of American Cultures (2013), World Music: Roots to Contemporary Global Fusions (2012), and co-author with Robert Hartwell of Great Composers and Music Masterpieces of Western Civilization (Kendall Hunt, 2015).Elizabeth is the recipient of several teaching awards, including being named California's Professor of the Year and being identified as one of two national Carnegie Scholars in the discipline of music by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. With a Ph.D. from U.C.
