I'm glad I went with the suggestion to read the prologue in Firelight before reading this. The prologue of Firelight is referenced in this (Miranda and Archer meeting). Having made a lasting first impression on each other, they go their separate ways. Archer trying to find a cure for his affliction....
3.5 stars: I would have preferred giving EMBER a full four stars, because Ms. Callihan did an excellent job of piquing my interest and setting the dark, foreboding tone of her first Darkest London novel, I found several points in the story confusing. While its overall effect on the narrative was min...
Having won a copy of Winterblaze, the third novel of this series I thought to get some background before I began reading it and now I am hooked. This novella teased right from the beginning. A touch of fairy tale, a hint of magic, a dream of a man (or is it a monster) all swirl around desperation an...
Time-wise, the majority of Ember takes place between the prologue and first chapter of the first Darkest London book, Firelight. Though technically Ember is a prequel to the Darkest London series, I strongly recommend reading Firelight before Ember. Ember reads more as a series of deleted scenes t...
Ember was an enjoyable prequel to Firelight, however, I felt it was largely unnecessary. I loved spending more time with Archer and Miranda, but the elements included in Ember could have simply been incorporated into Firelight. However, having full disclosure on events which were mentioned in Fireli...
Uhm… well now, this wasn’t bad. Not great but also not bad. Callihan is as good as ever, her descriptions being amazing. Fascinating. Totally fascinating.I mean, we get Archer wearing a "gallibaya". Which is spelled "galabeya" b-t-dub (just saying). Just imagine it. Nah, really imagine it. Let me he...
A short intro to the first book, Firelight, detailing the backstory of the main characters. While interesting if read in conjunction with Firelight, I don't know that this is enough to entice a reader to go on with the series.
ARC received from Grand Central Publishing on NetGalleyOK this was a really good prequel and I wish I had pre-requested Firelight so I could start right away! This was a great sneak peak and I am definitely intrigued. I like the turns that Miranda's life have taken to make her into a real person w...
This is a great prequel. We get to know what happened to both Miranda and Archer in the years they were appart after Archer saved her (or thought eh saved her) at the very begining of Firelight. I highly recommend reading this one ;)
This prequel takes place over the three year time span between the Prologue and Chapter one of Firelight. I would recommend reading it after Firelight as it gives away a little too much info on Archer to be read beforehand. You get to find out a little more about Miranda's fiancé Martin and why he l...
