“Andi, where’s my watch? I had it on my night stand and now it’s nowhere to be found.” Matt’s tone was accusatory, as if she had slipped in and taken it to pawn later.“I have no idea, dear.” Andi let the sarcasm in her endearment drip venom, but she finally decided it would be more beneficial to get her husband out the door than to antagonize him further. So, she slipped out of bed to help him look.Eventually, she found it on the floor behind the night stand, an obvious place to look but, apparently, not very obvious to a hot shot lawyer. She handed the missing time piece over and, without a kiss or even a goodbye, Matt walked out of the bedroom.She heard the front door close and then his car starting and driving away. Sighing and shaking her head, Andi went to the shower to get ready for the day. Of course, it wasn’t like she had much planned for the day. There was no one to visit, Drea and Philip, friends who had lately become much closer after an unexpected but wonderful threesome had occurred on her last visit, were on their way to Kuala Lumpur for some strange vacation package Drea had dredged up. As she had explained to Andi on the phone, “We’ve been every goddam place else. We might as well see what there is to see in the quaint world of Malaysia.” Andi had laughed. Only Drea would consider Malaysia quaint. Still, their absence was sorely felt by Andi and it took one option for filling her day out of her reach.Another option, Allison Dryson, her fellow member in the Cheating Lawyer Husbands club, was also out of reach, having gotten the nerve to file for divorce and then having left for her mom’s in Indiana. Andi couldn’t argue much with her decision since it was most likely their intense night spent commiserating, among other things, which had given her the guts to face Bill and tell him to shove it. Andi thought about their wild bout of love-making as she stared at the tub and felt a thrill run through her. She would have to find something to scratch her itch today, she decided, or she might end up thinking that her own husband was worth approaching for some scraps of physicality.Their seven year marriage was on its last legs, and Andi felt completely indifferent. At least, that was what she told herself, but she knew there must be something she was holding on to or she would have done the same as Allison, packed up the kids and herself and left. But she was still in their bed every night, even when he wasn’t, and so she guessed there was some thread still tying her to Matt, though she couldn’t think of what it was.
