This is a nice little twist on Red Riding Hood. I love the use of food in the book, and both Hood and the Grandmother are nicely done. It was fun.

Hanukkah Bear is an adorable story about old Bubba Brayna, who accidentally hosts a night of Hanukkah for a bear. It is incredibly silly and gives a taste of what Hanukkah is like. This book received a AD370L on the Lexile scale, and would be most appropriate for fourth graders and up. This book wo...

History of pirates as told through a young boy's eyes when he helps a Naval Lt. go after Blackbeard. This is not for young children. It does get a bit gory at the end as Blackbeard is captured and brought to justice. I liked that what was legal and the wrongness of the actions were explained at the ...

I only read "Moss Covered Rock" as a kid. I was obviously sadly deprived.

For my money, the cleverest bit of this twist on Jack and the Beanstalk was the talking jukebox. Clearly addressing the adult reading the book aloud, the jukebox talks almost entirely in classic song lyrics. It's well-done. The illustrations are cute in a cartoonish way. I'll have to try it out on s...
