This book was definitely entertaining, but I wonder about how much of it was factual. It claims to be the diary of a first-year teacher, but it seemed very idealistic and unrealistic. And it didn't sit right with me that there was a time when her students stabbed a substitute teacher in the back with...

Last year I checked this out of my school library, because I liked the cover and the blurb sounded interesting. Meh. I didn't really like it. This had so much potential. I just felt like it was lacking. I probably won't read this again.

As portrayed in this beautifully illustrated book, Ameircan folk hero Johnny "Appleseed" Chapman was Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, St. Francis of Assisi, and Mahatma Gandhi all rolled into one. Nicely done.

Cheerful and colorful illustrations with text that captures the fun and excitement but too long to read aloud (in whole anyway) to preschoolers.

This is a great companion novel to Sahara Special. I enjoyed it just as much and Esmé Raji Codell has a great way of teaching kids lessons without talking down to them. In this novel Paris learns:1. About WWII and Natzi's from her Piano teacher Mrs. Rosen.2. About treating your enemies as friends ...
