SO was not expecting this book to be what it ended up being, but really enjoyed it!

I will be reading more Anna Quindlen. This was my first Quindlen novel, and I found myself reading along and thinking, "I'm really enjoying these characters. They're so real. They're really so much like my own family. I love how this author gets out of her own way." And then, right at 50% of the way...

Audiobook version from Audible.com, read by Hope Davis. This was my first experience with Anna Quindlen's work, and I chose to listen to this book on the strength of the user reviews. It did not disappoint. It has been a long time since I've become so immersed in the emotions of a story that I compl...

Really disliked this book, a rambling narrative with parts of the story wandering away into abstract memories and rarely, if ever, making it back to the main point. A nice quick read but nothing amazing. She has written far bett...

I am not done yet, but I just spent the better part of my Saturday morning bawling on my deck. Coffee got cold, bugs were buzzing around my head, but I am loving this book. It's desperately sad and heart-wrenching, but sometimes a good cry over a fictional character's problems can be so cleansing!...

Raw. Powerful. Real. Not for cynics or sissies. If you have experienced a devastating event that has permanently divided your life into a "Before" and an "After," this book will really speak to your heart. I know it spoke to mine. If you're fortunate enough not to have been through the fire, ther...

"This is my life: The alarm goes off at five-thirty with the murmuring of a public-radio announcer, telling me that there has been a coup in Chad, a tornado in Texas. My husband stirs briefly next to me, turns over, blinks, and falls back to sleep for another hour. My robe lies at the foot of the be...
