I don't even remember what happens in this book. All I know is that it had a hilarious, unforgettable crystalline woman named Oar who was "excellent" at many things. She made the whole book a great experience. James Alan Gardner, thank you for Oar.
I really felt this book was a lot of fun, and was genuinely enjoying the experience...until the scene changes about halfway through the book. I kept slogging, thinking that possibly it'd pick back up, until I realized I was page flipping about eighty pages from the end. Blargh. Not worth continuing ...
I don't read a whole lot of hard scifi but this one really grabbed a hold of me. Need to find the next one! It kinda reminded me of Freedom's Landing.
