Please note that I gave this book 1.5 stars, but rounded it up to 2 stars on Goodreads. So I have to say that I was overall very disappointed with this look at Kurt Wallander. I started watching the BBC show and liked the character and stories a lot. Besides the same last night and backstory here and...

“To grow old is to live in fear. The dread of something menacing that you felt when you were a child returns when you get old.” The first episode of a sitcom is usually a bit clunky. This was a good mystery, but not nearly as good as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - another Swedish, slightly depressing mystery... hmm....

I picked this up because Mankell is hailed as the best writer of these frozen mysteries that have come into vogue after Stieg Larsson hit the big time. Sadly, I left the novel disappointed. The biggest crime, to be honest, is that it's boring. It's just simply boring to watch a policeman follow u...

I would give this 3 1/2 stars if Goodreads allowed it. A crime/mystery/detective story from Sweden. Not as engaging as Stieg Larsson's trilogy, but satisfying nevertheless.
