I don't hate myself enough to continue to read this book. Going to find something else to fit the "A Grimm Tale" square. I just don't have the patience for the singing or Aza and others talking about how ugly she is every freaking five seconds. My biggest issue is that Aza's not interesting enough t...

Meh. There were some nice changes from the standard Snow White, and I quite liked that she wasn't beautiful at all, but downright ugly. But it will never be my favorite. Weirdly, whereas the musical aspect of Seraphina really engaged me, the constant singing just kind of annoyed me, and that is hug...

This is book is a retelling of the classic Snow White story. It takes place in the same world as Ella Enchanted. Aza is a girl who lives in a land where two things are valued, music and beauty. Aza is an amazing singer but she feels she is so ugly that she hates looking at her reflection. On her que...

Between binge watching the first two seasons of Once Upon A Time and being stuck in the children's room at the library every Thursday morning for story time, it was only a matter of time before I succumbed to the middle grade retelling of fairy tales books with their tempting covers. This past Thurs...

After finishing Black Boy I found it hard to start another book. I needed something light and fun - what finally captured my interest was Gail Carson Levine's Fairest. What a beautiful fairy tale! But what really made this a fun audiobook experience was the excellent narration. The story is abou...

Fairest was full of fairytale romance and adventure, but also had a lot of deeper issues that is seen in society today such as the superficial need to be beautiful in order to be successful. This fairytale princess is full of depth and not some air head waiting to be rescued. She takes action and ma...

Really more of a 3.5 out of 5 but favorite author status grants this the bump up here on GR.Gail Carson Levine is one of my longest-held favorite authors; since I was eleven years old and stumbled across a still-current-favorite (Ella Enchanted) this has been an author that I keep my eye out for he...

I really like this author and I've read a lot of her work. I'm not sure how I felt about them always singing. It got kinda annoying. But it was a very nice, relateable story about looks not being everything. I liked Ivi and how she was very child like, and needed approval and admiration.
Projections of a Bibliophiles Mind
This is a pretty good book, but I can't help saying it's not as good as Ella Enchanted though it's written in the same style and about a similar world. The characters are very likeable and their physical faults make them even more so because they have great personalities. The story itself has a grea...
