I've been talking up Agnes and the Hitman lately, and it got me in the mood for a re-read. I wanted something slightly less madcap than Agnes though, so I went with Fast Women. I've read this book at least half a dozen times - it's one of my favourite Jennifer Crusie books - and it never gets old...

Faux noir. I loved it. Library copy
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
I did not enjoy this one quite as much as Bet Me, but it was still fun - a tale of a just-divorced woman, her new job at a detective agency, and the battle with her boss for a clean and modern office (it was last updated in 1955). Also the stories of her best friends (one with a missing husband, t...

Fast Women The Characters Gabe Nell And a bunch of other folks. The Story This story was really interesting and really complicated. A who-done-it story laced with friendship, comedy and love. The Random Thoughts This story once again proves that I can not go wrong with a Jennifer Crusie book. Bu...

I love this writer. I’ve read everything she published and I subscribe to her blog. This re-read (it was originally published in 2001) gave me enormous pleasure and induced several laughing fits. The story starts with the protagonist, Nell, coming to a job interview. She is a divorcee, still reeling ...

It's core characters are Nell Dysart whose just lost her job and husband to her husband's new squeeze and finds a secretarial job working for Gab...

3.5 starsI've been a fan of Jennifer Crusie since Bet Me, but this book doesn't do her justice. It's a book without a genre. Not romance (no steam, and bummer for that). Not mystery(none of the traditional plot point trajectory for that, this book is all over the place). Not chick lit (none of t...

This book made me laugh in some spots, the narration was good and I liked some of the characters. However I found some of the lead women annoying. And wtf is up with the china and the meaning of it in this book?

my first contemporary (and heterosexual) romance. or in this case, a "romantic mystery". cute, fun, and even ocasionally interesting. the situations and attitudes depicted in this novel are so outside of my experience that at times i felt like i was reading a scifi novel. which was not a bad feeling...
