These seems like a collection of 'what if' scenarios from various fantasy Authors and they are very enjoyable for a casual read; a few of them would even qualify for college-level analysis, I believe.

A very fine representative collection of recent scifi and fantasy. I esp. liked Sherwood Smith's short story and Diana Wynne Jones's.
Another short story collection, this one focused on authors with a connection to the Firebird imprint.
