This took forever to finish over multiple tries, which pretty much sums up how engaged I was with this book. I love Neil Gaiman's stories, but nearly every story in this collection left me thinking either, "okay that was different" or "wtf did I just read?". They mostly felt like the kind of flash f...
Arbie's Unoriginally Titled Book Blog
As with previous collections of short pieces by Gaiman, I found this extremely variable in quality: Anything referred to as "poetry" is execrable, as are all the "stories" that are extremely short and fail to follow any normal narrative structure. On the other hand, the pieces that follow some kind ...

Please note that I gave this 3.5 stars. I rounded it up to 4 stars on Goodreads. So all in all definitely a mixed bag I am sad to say. I have loved everything else that I have read of Neil Gaiman's though I did only find Good Omens to be okay/good and have no intention of re-reading it. I have alread...

Author: Neil Gaiman ASIN: B005GL95T0 Why did I read it? Stir in the specter of Poe, the shadow of Bradbury, and a dash of Tim Burton's macabre quirkiness -- and from the Gothic cauldron is served a phantasmogorical smorgasbord that is darkly and deliciously Gaiman.

Stories, Neil Gaiman informs in the introduction, are fragile things made up of 26 letters (more if you want to use phonetic symbols), ink and paper. They are illusions created by things that cannot last, but the best stories survive and transform. The stories within this volume are perhaps some of ...

A delightful, quick read. I especially liked the short stories that built off other books from the canon - Sherlock Holmes and Chronicles of Narnia, for example. Everyone who has read American Gods should read this book just for the last short story, which deals with Shadow's life after the catacl...

totally weird. This is my first book of short stories, I was entertained, made to ponder, and I had nightmares too from reading this. Some parts are boring especially the poems, not because of Neil's writing but my liking of poems per se. Definitely, a good start of Neil's books for me.
