As part of my plan to knock off TBR books quicker by checking out audio versions, I started this book just at the tail end of last year, but didn't make enough progress before holidays, so picked it back up this month. But there were problems: My first audio, checked out from my local library, wa...

two starsgranted, it's funny, really funny. however, it's also true that wodehouse should be imbibed sparingly. listening this book as continuous background noise made me think that wodehouse is a real sadist. poor bertie. i won't be surprised if tom and jerry were inspired by bertie and jeeves.

The author makes history come alive and the next minute of listening is as exciting as the previous. If I had one wish, it would be to be able to memorize this book. The book is overwhelming for it does cover over 2 million years of human history in one volume. The author writes with snark which only...

I have to admit that I really don’t think that I’m a fan of Dickens. The way his novels are is just way too annoying for me. I could probably put up with it and loved it as periodicals but as a BIG chunky novel – No, thanks!Right from the very beginning when Dickens unveiled the very ignominious c...

A good reader (Frederick Davidson) on this edition. The blank verse resonates and emphasizes without overpowering, and he does a good job with both rhymes and enjambment. This exegesis of Genesis relies fairly heavily on the Greek and Roman pantheons for symbolism and plot points. It's interesting t...

Orwell's first publication, one in which he has yet to find his voice. Since this is exaggerated/fake autobiography, the anti-Semitism, presumably Orwell's though articulated by other characters, is wearisome. The argument that the sentiments in this book aren't anti-Semitic because Orwell later wro...

Whew! This was a long, long book to listen to. I've never been a huge fan of Russian literature, and this book reminded me why. The Brothers Karamazov isn't so much a story as a lengthy disquisition on the Russian character and the issues of Dostoyevsky's day, detailed personality profiles, and digr...
