Freddy was born in Kirkham, Lancashire, in 1936. His young informative years were spent growing up during the Second World War. He witnessed some of the atrocities of that time and the memories have remained vivid with him to this day. He spent four years at one of the World's oldest schools, Kirkham Grammar. At that time he became one of the country's top swimmers and the northern counties schoolboy champion. He was also a voluntary Life Guard in Blackpool for many years, saving four children during that service. He married Betty in 1957 and then 5 days later left her for 2 years to carry out his Army Service in Malaya. There he served as a Section Commander in the Malaya Jungle, fighting the communist army. His first book, 'Loyal to the End' is about his two years National Service enlistment, with the legendary and highly respected Loyal Regiment. In the 1960s he became a racing driver and then the works team manager. He has always been involved in public life appearing on TV and radio, including permanent panelist on the BBC, 'It's a Free Country.' He now spends much of his free time and when not engaged with his books, at the 'Lancashire Infantry Museum', at the Fulwood Barracks, Preston. Betty and Freddy have four children, two boys and two girls and they are a close family.Freddy only started writing after he retired and when he first got the time to do that.
